#MySexySaturday – AVALANCHE! – a romance revisited

Nice to see you all again! Hope you’re rejuvenated from the holidays and are ready to roll again with the #My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop.

This male-female romance was released about eight years ago, I think. It’s been unavailable for awhile on Amber Quill, but yesterday I indie published it. It’s been reedited, but is basically the same, sexy, heartwarming tale of romance among skiers…

Avalanche

…Chad has been seriously injured in a ski accident, and Seri is with him to be sure he doesn’t slip into a coma. They’re trapped in his chalet during a blizzard.

From Avalanche!

…In the bathroom, Seri removed her after-ski outerwear, rid herself of the discomfort of a bra over her full breasts all day and shed her black panties. She slipped under the covers beside him wearing only her long, black silk thermals. He stirred and quieted. She curled near him, only close enough to share her body warmth.

Falling instantly asleep as if drugged, she stirred briefly when she felt someone brushing the tendrils of hairs that had escaped from her braid back from her face. Opening her eyes, she saw that she and Chad now faced each other.

“Hi,” he said, his voice soft. He smelled of antiseptic and soap. In the flickering light of the banked fire, his eyes had darkened to lapis lazuli.

That’s who he is in real life, she thought. Someone deep and mysterious, who keeps his thoughts close to his chest. This was the Chad she knew.

“Hi,” she whispered back.

His lips, warm and soft, closed on hers. Desire threaded through her body. Alarm bells rang distantly in her head. Thankfully, Chad went back to sleep, and she didn’t think he was aware she hadn’t returned his kiss. It had been shit hard, but she hadn’t done all the things she’d wanted to do with that mouth, that desire-igniting mouth with its warmth and all encompassing sweetness.

Nothing had changed since high school. And she was a fool…

My seven paragraphs are from Forbidden Desire

Brian opened his eyes and gazed into the startling eyes of a man standing at his bedside. At first, he thought the eyes were gray, and then a shift of the light and they appeared as dark blue, almost green. Rousing from the sedation he’d undergone, a sensual connection spread like warmth through him and settled in his belly. It was an “across a crowded room” kind of connection. Something you couldn’t explain, but nice. Very nice. He smiled. He really liked those eyes.

med_ForbiddenDesireHe’d never seen the man dressed in teal scrubs with a stethoscope peeking out of the pocket of his white jacket before. Maybe he was a nurse or a nursing attendant, but they usually carried their stethoscopes around their necks. As he grew more awake, the sensual feeling he’d experienced was unsettling. Damn it, he was in a hospital and ached so much all over it was ridiculous to be thinking of sex. Still, the warmth and a telltale thread of desire lingered.

The man’s manner was relaxed and confident, his smile one of sympathetic amusement as he extended his hand. “Doctor Stan Gordon. I’m a urologist. Doctor Hanes was called to an adjoining operating room on an emergency after we sedated you, so I handled your case.”

“Any guy whose foreskin slips back and threatens to cut off circulation to the head of his dick is an emergency!” Brian’s words burst out in hot irritation. He felt the blood rush to his face in a mixture of temper and embarrassment. Temper that Dr. Hanes had abandoned him. Embarrassment because his substitute was tall, fit and handsome, and he’d been playing around with Brian’s equipment without his permission–as nice as that might have been under different circumstances.

“Dr. Hanes had to repair a bladder ruptured in an auto accident. I was called in because you were an emergency.”

Brian cringed. “That makes me feel about an inch high. Sorry I was so curt.”

“Not a problem. You’ve had a rough go of it.”

PERFECT HEROES FOR ROMANCE

Amen To LoveFriend and author Marilyn Donohue once published an article called “There’s More to a Library than Books.” The point being that there’s a story behind the writing of every book. I’ve always thought how clever she was to come up with that idea, and today I’m sharing the story behind the writing of AMEN TO LOVE…

Men of the sea and their ships hold a special place in my heart because I grew up in Navy country, had sailors as friends and dated officers.

My high school boyfriend’s father was a naval commander, and one night, when his dad’s ship was in port, we sat in silence on the bluffs watching its lights dance on the black water below. The poignancy of those moments are clear to me now that I’m older. In a way I didn’t then, I realize how proud he was of his father, but, unlike mine, who was always home, his was away too much. The lights may have evoked feelings of pride, but the vastness of the dark waters reflected a hurtful longing to see more of his dad.

As news of the exploits of SEALs began to hit the news in recent years, I became enthralled with these superheroes, these elite of the elite Special Forces warriors. They truly do make perfect heroes for a romance. As I thought about writing Awaking the Alpha–my January 2014 All Romance eBooks and Amber Allure best seller–I happened on a TV interview of a highly decorated SEAL who for all his twenty years in the service hid the fact his brain told him he was really female. I drew partly on this idea of hiding your real identity in creating Blaze Canis, a retired SEAL whose teammates never guessed he was gay, much less a werewolf.

As I began writing Amen To Love, I wasn’t interested in doing another shifter story, but I was not quite through with the SEALs. This new release is part of the medical AmberPax, A Cure For What Ails You, and since I have bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing, it was fun to step back into the medical field and create Bond Bergstrom, a closeted and retired Navy SEAL, the new chief of surgery at Weatherton Mountain Hospital. For Bond, I drew on that sense of loss my high school boyfriend felt about missing his dad because newly retired Bond misses his former teammates at times.

I hope you enjoy him and his retired Delta Force operative counterpart, sexy Irish American Rory O’Shea.

I’m a member of the Orange County, CA chapter of Romance Writers of America and the Los Angeles chapter of Sisters in Crime. The murder mystery in the plot springs out of my interest in the crime genres.

I’ve read that people who read crime fiction pretty much ignore other genres, while romance readers tend to enjoy a broad and diverse range of books. I hope combining genres adds to your reading pleasure. Even if you don’t usually care for crime fiction, I hope you’ll find the love story in Amen To Love sizzlingly satisfying.

A Night To Remember by Dee Ann Palmer

It was the worst Christmas Eve Marlee had ever lived through. Providing she did live through it, she thought. People who longed for a white Christmas obviously didn’t expect it to come with a power outage and a blizzard like she was creeping along in in her old Nissan.
Squinting to see, she switched the heat to the front and rear windshields. If she didn’t reach her house soon, the wipers wouldn’t be able to cut through the ice forming there. The snow had thickened and the temperature had dropped in the last thirty minutes.

“You had to have a tree. Going out in a blizzard to get that puny thing in the backseat masquerading as a Christmas tree was moronic,” she scolded herself.

SEVEN SEXY PARAGRAPHS

“You look magnificent,” Bond blurted out. His tongue was so tied from emotion it was a wonder he could speak at all.

“And ya look like ya just stepped off a Paris runway.” Rory’s brogue was deliberately thicker tonight and his broad smile revealed his even white teeth. He leaned in to brush his lips across Bond’s. “And ya also look good enough to eat, Navy.”

His hair was once again combed straight back and tucked neatly behind his ears. Bond couldn’t tell which way he liked it best. Both stirred his cock in his trousers, but his jacket was buttoned and partially hid the beginning rise at the soft touch of those warm lips.

O’Shea was resplendent in a dress Celtic kilt and jacket suit of fine wool in charcoal gray. The kilt kissed his thighs just above his knees. Knitted hose ended just below them, their cuffs were turned over and flashes the green of his eyes flipped from them as he walked. Black leather ankle boots, polished to a gleam, covered his feet.

Bond hadn’t known the Irish wore kilts like the Scots did, and he studied the firmly masculine figure before him. He thought those knees so sexy he could have fucked Rory right then and there. Instead, he sighed and let out a low wolf whistle.

The jacket had satin lapels and ended just below Rory’s hips. It wasn’t meant to be buttoned. His black shirt was open at the throat, and a small silver cross on a fine chain glinted against skin tones the color of moonlight.

The sporran was missing, but a silver pin of a sgian-dubh—black knife— was fastened to the lower right of his kilt, signifying that Rory fought right-handed. Absent was the traditional hilt of a real knife protruding from the top of the cuff of the hose on that side…

Amen To Love will be one of five gay stories in the General Hospital AmberPax collection. http://www.amberquill.com/store/m/78-Carolina-Valdez.aspx
